Life is inherently uncertain and ever-changing. Most of our suffering comes from resisting this fact in one way or another. Even happy milestones—like getting married, having a child, or landing a promotion—can bring significant stress as we adjust to new roles, expectations, and routines. 

Living abroad adds an extra layer of complexity and challenges of its own. Navigating even small changes in a culture with different customs, language, food, and ways of thinking can amplify stress far more than if you were experiencing them at “home.”

And when life’s bigger cataclysms hit—losing a parent, going through a divorce, moving, or adjusting to life with a newborn—without the support systems you’d have back home, it can truly shake us to our very foundation and throw us off course. 

Big or small, life-altering or just life-aggravating, I help the English-speaking community in Japan manage stress, anxiety and every day life using mindfulness, self-compassion and holistic health strategies.

Life can be challenging, overwhelming, and even downright cruel at times, but we can be kind to ourselves.

How can coaching help?

When facing uncertainty or feeling overwhelmed, even the smallest, most mundane tasks can seem daunting. Sometimes it’s all you can do to get out of bed and get through the day. You may feel like you need something to change or need to start taking steps to improve your situation, but not know where to start or how to begin. 

Your wellness coach acts as your support system: helping you define and clarify what is most important to you and what kind of life you would like to be living, and then helps you create specific steps to work towards those goals. A coach holds you accountable, following up on your progress from week to week, highlighting and celebrating successes, and guides you on your journey every step of the way. 

The journey is yours, but you don’t have to do it alone.

Having experienced many of the cataclysms of life myself in Japan throughout my 20 years here, I deeply understand the pain, heart-ache, bewilderment and frustration that can occur when having to face these colossal changes virtually on your own, so far away from your home, family and friends.

Several years ago I entered into what seemed to me to be “the dark period” of my life: I was (not) dealing with multiple sudden losses by doing everything I could to avoid them.

I did things the hard way.

It was a long time before I was able to realize I needed something to change, and reached out for help. Fortunately, I eventually did, and my own personal journey has led me here -- reaching out to help you on yours.
